The Chapel on the Old Mountain, Geraardsbergen
The Chapel on the Old Mountain in Geraardsbergen has been a place of pilgrimage for several centuries. Ghislain-François, the father of Constant van Crombrugghe, purchased the Chapel at the time of the French Revolution (1789) when it was about to be demolished. In 1865 the ownership of the Chapel passed to the Congregation of the Josephites. Since that time, the Josephites have continued to maintain this ancient shrine to Our Lady, the Mother of God. In 1906 the Chapel was rebuilt. In 2006, as part of the centenary to commemorate the Chapel being rebuilt, a restoration programme was undertaken which was completed in 2008.
